overview
Carmen Greco lived for 10 years with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). His disease eventually took his life on October 17, 2024. Prior to his diagnosis, Carmen dedicated his time outside of work volunteering in the community. He spent over 3 decades coaching youth sports. When he wasn’t coaching, he could be found at the ballpark supporting kids he used to coach, friends’ kids, and family. He was PTA co-president with his wife at his kids’ elementary school growing up. When he lost his job after 25 years with IBM, he went back to school to become a teacher. He spent the final years of his career substitute teaching.
In honor of Carmen’s dedication to his community, a scholarship was established in his name at the school district he and his children attended. The Carmen F. Greco Service to Humankind Memorial Scholarship was established through Scholarship Opportunities for U-E Tigers. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who shows a commitment to their community through volunteer work.
Scholarship Opportunities for U-E Tigers is a local non-profit organization dedicated to increasing educational prospects for high school graduates. Their primary mission is to offer scholarships to deserving seniors transitioning to colleges or vocational schools. By doing so, they contribute significantly to the community’s intellectual growth and development.
